Mabel Adelaide Gibbs was married to Michael Daniel Fox on July 10, 1903. He was
a member of the St. Mary's Church of Cooks. He spent his life as a farmer and
logger. He was born on Feb. 11, 1873 in Kenora, Ontario, Canada, to Sarah
(Dempsey) and Daniel Fox of Ireland. He died on April 19, 1952 at Schoolcraft
Memorial Hospital in Manistique, after having been ill for about a month. In his
youth, he moved from Canada to Mt. Pleasant, MI, and in 1902 he moved to Cooks.
He moved to Gould City about 5 years before he died. (obituary-Escanaba Daily
Press-April 21, 1952) He is buried in the Cooks Cemetery.
Great-Grandma Mabel's family is a little more complex. She was born on June 17,
1886 in Cooks to (Polly) Louisa Bigler and Milo Gibbs. Polly was born in Oakland
County, MI, on March 28, 1847, and moved to Cooks with her husband from Lapeer
in 1881. After the death of her husband in 1893, she remarried, with her second
husband passing away in 1912. She was 82 at the time of her death, which was due
to heart trouble and complications. She is also buried in the Cooks Cemetery.
Polly was the daughter of Dorcus (b.1821) and Sarah (b.1824) Bigler, both born
in New York. (1950 Oakland Co. census and obit)
